A Shoebox Packed with Love and Prayer
I’m Susie—a wife, mom, grandma, hairdresser, and longtime member of Cornerstone Christian Center in Basalt. I love people, and I love finding ways to share God’s love with them. Operation Christmas Child has become one of those ways for me. It started with an invitation My good friend Becky McDaniel had been an Operation Christmas Child project leader for many years. She invited me to packing parties and to “Crafternoons,” where local women gather to make special handmade gifts for shoeboxes. Each time I went, I felt such joy being with women who were led by the Holy Spirit to create beautiful gifts and pray for children around the world. One day, Roz Fowler, the Rocky Mountain area coordinator for Operation Christmas Child, asked if I would prayerfully consider becoming a project leader for Cornerstone. There wasn’t a leader at the church then, and I felt honored to help fill that need. I spoke with Pastor Jim, and he was excited to start the ministry up again. Now, in my third year volunteering alongside my co-leader, Claudia Newell, we become even more excited each year about sharing the love of Jesus around the world. I’m truly blessed and grateful to be part of such an impactful ministry. “Each year, we became more on fire to spread the love of Jesus around the world” A gift chosen with a child in mind When I pack a shoebox, I think about the child who will receive it. You choose a boy or girl and an age group—2–4, 5–9, or 10–14—and try to make the box: Fun: Include a special “wow” item the child will love. Full: Fill the box with gifts. Personal: Add a note of encouragement, Scripture, or perhaps a photo. The most important thing to pack Most of all, pray for the child who will open the box. Prayer is the most important thing to pack. The $10 donation helps cover shipping and supports gospel teaching translated into more than 118 languages. I think of each shoebox as a mustard seed spreading the love of Jesus around the world. “Prayer is the most important thing to pack in a box.” The story continues after the gift Every child who receives a shoeboxes is invited to take part in The Greatest Journey, a 12-lesson discipleship course that helps them learn how to follow Christ and share Him with others. To me, this is one way we can live out Jesus’ words to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). I also think of His invitation: “Let the little children come to me” (Matthew 19:14). You can take part, wherever you are Our church will have boxes available beginning October 25, with the collection ending November 15. If you can’t attend Cornerstone in person or pick up a physical box, you can still participate by building and sending one online.Build a box online I hope you’ll consider packing a shoebox and praying for the child who receives it. It’s a practical way to serve, and you never know how God may use that simple gift. - Bless you, Susie

See You at the Pole: Students Lead Our Campus in Prayer
See You At The Pole - 2026 🙏 🇺🇸 This morning, Cornerstone’s Christian School joined thousands of schools across the country for See You at the Pole—an annual event where Christian students gather before school to pray. Right away, it was clear this wasn’t a small moment. Students from the youngest grades to the oldest stood together with parents, teachers, and staff, united around a simple purpose: to seek God. The morning included worship, a pledge to the U.S. flag, and a pledge to the Christian flag—then the center of it all: children praying out loud. As each grade took a turn, a consistent theme rose to the surface. Students prayed for our nation and its leaders to make wise decisions. They prayed for protection over those who serve. And again and again, they prayed that people would know Jesus—a reminder that even at a young age, they understand what matters most. Pastor Jim also shared a brief story from American history to connect faith with perseverance. He highlighted Betsy Ross—a Christian businesswoman and single mom who endured profound loss during the Revolutionary War, losing two husbands, yet remained faithful and didn’t quit. Her steady work helped produce an early version of the American flag, a symbol that still reflects the original stripes and stars today. The takeaway was simple: faithfulness isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we live, especially when life is hard. Mornings like this are part of why Christian community and Christian education matter. The calling of the Church is not only to believe, but to pass faith and God’s stories to the next generation—so they carry the torch with humility, courage, and dependence on the Lord. “Keep prayer alive in your homes and with your children—and be pleasantly surprised about what is on their hearts to pray for.” - Jim Tarr A simple next step for families this week: find a moment at the dinner table or at bedtime and pray together—for your home, for our community, and for our nation. What we heard today shows a real maturity in our kids and a desire to pray for what is precious to God.Learn More about Cornerstone School

Word Over Worry: MomCo at Cornerstone
At MomCo this week, our theme was “Word over Worry.” We talked about how God’s Word doesn’t just comfort us—it leads us:“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”(Psalm 119:105). When anxiety creeps in, we don’t have to carry it alone or figure it out in our own strength. We can go to Him—again and again—and let His truth guide our next step. One of the sweetest moments was seeing real community in action: our KidCo leader commented on how kind all of our kids were, and moms were picking up and bouncing fussy babies so other moms could finish their crafts. We made keychains with a special word or phrase—something simple you’ll see throughout your day that reminds you to be encouraged. If you’ve been on the fence about coming…just come. We’d love to meet you, and you belong here. WANT TO JOIN IN? MomCo at Cornerstone: Interruptions Aren’t Inconveniences
I walked away from MomCo today thinking about something we all deal with… interruptions. The kind that show up right in the middle of your plan, your to-do list, your “I’m finally getting ahead” moment. But what if interruptions aren’t inconveniences? What if they’re opportunities—little openings God uses to deepen relationships and build real community. One of the biggest takeaways for me is this: when we prioritize relationships over tasks, we create more meaningful moments in motherhood. And honestly, I need this reminder as much as anyone. Don’t get so busy planning that perfect life for everyone around you that you forget to actually be a part of it. I think one reason we hesitate to let people in (or to invite them over, or to ask for help) is because we feel like we have to be totally ready and put together first—like someone can’t see the messy parts. But the truth is: the messy parts are where real life happens. And real friendships are built in those moments—when someone needs help, when plans change, when we show up for each other without pretending everything is perfect. Here’s my challenge for you this week: come up with a way to make your friendships feel more like they did in the 90s. More drop-by energy. More “need anything?” texts. More real conversations. More connection that doesn’t require a two-month scheduling window. Today we even made friendship flower bouquets—and I loved the picture it gave us. Just like each flower has its own beauty, color, and role, our friendships are meant to be diverse. Different people bring different gifts, encouragement, and strength to our lives. If you’re a mom who’s craving community (or you’re new in town, or you’ve been doing everything on your own), you are so welcome at MomCo at Cornerstone. Come as you are—messy bun, busy schedule, real life and all. This is a place to breathe, be encouraged, and build friendships that actually hold up when life interrupts. How to register The simplest way is to register online here: themom.co/join Then enter our group’s Registration Code: 7HJC That covers your MomCo membership benefits. We also collect a donation to help cover our group needs—childcare, activities, and the occasional treat (because we all need a little something!). Come As You Are: MomCo Kickoff Recap
Come As You Are: MomCo Kickoff Recap Our very first MomCo meeting was messy in the best way—yes, I had baby spit-up on me while welcoming moms. And honestly… that kind of sums up why MomCo matters. Real life, real people, and a place to breathe. One mom held her newborn and told me, “I really needed this. I need more mom friends in my life right now.” I felt that in my bones. We talked about rediscovering what it means to be good company and good friends—choosing real-life connection over curated life—and showing up fully in our everyday relationships with each other and with God. A lot of moms walked in exhausted… carrying the weight of running all the things during the week, sometimes without their other half around. But by the end? Moms were hugging, holding each other’s babies, and encouraging one another. Conversations that started over chips and guac turned into real support. Scripture to meditate on: Galatians 6:2 — “Carry each other’s burdens…” That’s what I want MomCo to be: a place where you don’t have to carry it all alone. New faces are always welcome. Come as you are—messy, no makeup, no need to apologize for being late. If you’ve been on the fence, next Friday is a great week to jump in. I really believe you’ll leave known and heard (and maybe with a new friend). Join MomCo using our group code: 7HJCSign Up Here Huge thank you to our awesome KidCo staff for keeping the kiddos safe and happy. And thank you for the donations that help us continue creating space for fun, fellowship, and real connection. Next Meeting: 📅 MomCo — Friday, Sept 25, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM Come for a warm cup of coffee and a quiet moment to think and reflect. Invite a friend

Generations Together in Children’s Church
This Sunday in Children’s Church This Sunday in Children’s Church, we got to witness something that felt like the heart of the Church in one moment: generations coming together to share strength, love, and faith. Kids were engaged, listening closely, and ready to participate. It was one of those reminders that what we do with our children matters deeply, and God uses simple moments to plant lasting seeds. A Gift Shared This Sunday Patricia Leonetti came with something the Lord put on her heart: to teach our kids three songs. One of the songs was “Jesus Loves Me,” and Patricia shared that she’s been singing it since she was a little girl. It’s been part of her life for as long as she can remember, and now she was passing it on to the next generation. Patricia is 95 years old, and she is a firecracker in the best way. She still drives. She knows her Bible. She looks out for others and cares deeply for the people around her in her retirement center. She’s faithful, steady, and full of life. You can tell quickly that she’s the real deal, and that God has done deep, good things in her life over many years. Aaron Goulet, one of our parent volunteers who helps run Children’s Church, captured the beauty of the moment: “It was just so cool to witness something that she learned as a child at five years old, 90 years later is still something she remembers and is an encouragement to her today and to share that with the next generation.” What Church is Meant to Be Moments like this remind us what church is meant to be. Not a place where a few people do everything, but a body where each of us has something to contribute. A gift. A story. A song. A prayer. A listening ear. A willingness to show up and love people well. We want to encourage our church family to stay on the lookout for how God may want to use you. Sometimes it’s not a big platform moment. Sometimes it’s as simple as stepping into a room of kids and sharing something you’ve carried with you for a lifetime. Those seeds matter, and God uses them more than we realize. “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” (Hebrews 10:24) This is part of what we’re praying for as a church: that we would notice one another, encourage one another, and step into the good works God has prepared, including the quiet, behind-the-scenes serving that strengthens families and builds faith in the next generation. Generations worshiping together is one of the clearest pictures of what the Church is meant to be. Each of us has something to bring, and God loves to use simple gifts to strengthen the next generation. Our kids ministry is growing, and we’d love a few more helping hands in the nursery. If you’re interested in serving (even once a month), you can learn more and sign up here.
